Claremont teenager Christian McGhee, 16, will make his second career NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West start, when he climbs aboard the #06 Millennium Reinforcing Ford in Saturday’s “NAPA Auto Parts 150” at his home Irwindale Speedway. The race is presented by team sponsor King Taco Catering and will see McGhee trying to defend home turf against the West Series regulars.

The young driver has raced in more than half a dozen disciplines at the state-of-the-art half-mile speedway. After starting in INEX Bandoleros and Legends cars, McGhee moved into the ultra-competitive Irwindale Race Trucks where he finished fourth in the 2013 points en route to Rookie of the Year. McGhee made big strides in 2014 as a rookie in the track’s NASCAR Whelen-sanctioned Late Models with a win, track and state Rookie of the Year, and third place in the standings.

Car owner Joe Nava is one of the most accomplished in the history of Irwindale Speedway with his team winning the 2000 West Series “Home Depot 250” with Joe Bean behind the wheel. McGhee and Nava would love nothing more than to bring another win to the mantle at P-1 Performance Motorsports.

“I can’t thank Joe Nava and all of our sponsors and partners enough for the opportunity race in the West Series,” McGhee said. “I feel like we have a great shot at a top-five finish if not a win. It would mean a lot to me to get my first series win at my home track!”

McGhee is coming into Irwindale fresh off of a ninth place finish in his West Series debut at the half-mile Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, CA. McGhee competed last Saturday at Irwindale in the Twin 30s for Late Models and also the Irwindale Race Trucks, scoring three top-five finishes.

Eyes were opened up wide to McGhee’s potential when he debuted in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour in August at Irwindale, leading 43 laps before eventually finishing 12th.

Ticket gates for Saturday’s NAPA Auto Parts 150 will open at 3 p.m. with grandstands opening at 4 p.m. and the first races at 6 p.m. The King Taco Catering / NAPA Auto Parts 150 will go green at 8:30 p.m. Race fans can follow Saturday’s action live at or follow Christian McGhee on Facebook and Twitter.
