Most kisses feel really good, but for Tim McCreadie, his kiss on Thursday night at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park was one of the best he’s ever had. McCreadie kissed, albeit hesitantly, a live alligator in victory lane after winning the second 30-lap Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified feature.
“I don’t normally go around kissing wild alligators,” McCreadie told Speed51.com in victory lane. “I live in New York. Not a lot of alligators. Not a lot of snakes. Just snow. I’ll kiss all kinds of alligators as long as we keep getting paid.”
McCreadie did indeed get paid on Thursday night. He received a check for $4,000 after dominating the feature from the pole position. McCreadie did lose the lead for a few laps to Justin Haers, but he was able to regain the lead and then drive off to the win.
Stewart Friesen charged from eighth to finish second behind McCreadie. Friesen was leading late in the first feature before a flat right-rear tire ended his chance at the win in that one. Even with a second-place finish in the second race, Friesen said he was still bothered by the way his first race ended.
“It stings a little bit, that first one, but that’s racing,” said Friesen.
Friesen added that the track conditions weren’t optimal for his driving style, but he said he had a lot of fun racing with McCreadie for the win in his second race.
“That’s Timmy’s kind of track conditions, but I had a lot of fun racing with him out there.”
McCreadie echoed Friesen’s sentiments about the battle for the win being a lot of fun in the closing stages of the second feature.
“This is awesome,” said McCreadie. “It’s fun for me to do this. There’s no shame in losing to Stewart Friesen or Danny Johnson. This is fun. It’s enjoyable. I do what I can do to leave it all on the table every lap.”
The Super DIRTcar Series will be back in action on Friday night at Volusia, the penultimate night of racing at the DIRTcar Nationals. Speed51.com will be on hand with coverage from the event.
