Dillon, S.C. : In front of a packed grandstand on Saturday, June 14, Dillon Motor Speedway hosted the Late Models, Chargers, Street Stocks, Pure Stock Fours and Mini Cup Stocks for the First Citizens 200.
After starting on the Late Model pole, Matt Brooks drove his way to his first victory at the speedway. Greg Peterson finished second, followed by Archie Adams Jr. in third. Shaun Mangum rallied back for a fourth place finish after being involved in an accident in turn one. Tim Allensworth rounded out the top-five.
Jason Calhoun led every lap en route to another victory in the Charger division. On Lap 20, Ryan Walsh and Michael Obrien got together exiting turn four. Obrien slid all the way down the frontstretch, wheeling the car in every direction. After the car came to a stop, he had minimal damage to the rear end after tapping the inside wall. Walsh finished second, followed by Ben Watford, Obrien and William Haynie.
Tommy Poole was declared the winner of the Street Stock feature after Gary Ledbetter was disqualified. There were only two cautions, one for debris and the other for Ricky Locklair Jr. having an issue. Jeff Melton fought hard for a second place finish. Ricky Locklair Sr. finished third, and Justin Altman finished fourth. Ron Flynn captured his first top-five of the season on Saturday night.
Marty Dean and Trey McDonald had a great battle all race long for the lead. In the end, Dean was able to power past McDonald on the last lap to take the victory.
Ricky Locklair Jr. led all 20 laps to win his first race in the Mini Cup Stock division. On lap two, Bill Willis took a hard lick into the inside wall on the frontstretch, but he was alright and walked away. Chalin Williamson finished second, while Trey Schuler captured his first top-three at the speedway. Logan Owens finished fourth, and Jessica Poland finished fifth.
On Saturday, June 21, Dillon Motor Speedway will host the Quincy Family Steakhouse 200. Divisions that will be competing include the Late Models, Super Trucks, Chargers, Street Stocks, Ford Flatheads and Allison Legacy Series. The Street Stock race will be another qualifier for the Street Stock National event set to be held on Saturday, July 5.
Practice will begin at 4 p.m., followed by qualifying at 6 p.m. and the race at 8 p.m. Tickets are only $12, and kids 11 years old and younger are free.
