Massachusetts Racer Goes Back-to-Back with GSPSS

Earlier this month, Angelo Belsito scored his first win of the Granite State Pro Stock Series season at Hudson Speedway (NH).  The Massachusetts racer made it clear that win was no fluke on Friday night, dominating the series’ fourth race of 2020 to win at Claremont Motorsports Park (NH).

Belsito took the lead on lap 13 of the 100-lap feature race, then stretched out an imposing lead.  Belsito ultimately won by 3.6 seconds over second-place Luke Hinkley as the race went green-to-checkered without a single caution flag to interrupt proceedings.

Belsito had a hunch the race would be a clean one, adjusting his car accordingly and reaping the benefits.

“The car was good,” said Belsito in victory lane.  “Again, we had to work for it.  We made the right adjustments, had a feeling that we’d go green-to-checkered.  I made my move and ran away with it.”

While Belsito stretched out an impressive lead, he said he was also keeping some speed in reserve in case a late caution took place.

“I just paced myself off what they were running behind me.  There was more in the tank if I needed to use it.  When I’d get in lapped traffic, I’d use a little bit of it to get away and it paid off.”

Hinkley finished second, moving into the runner-up spot on lap 84 after a hard-fought battle with Ray Christian, III.  Hinkley acknowledged he might have had a fast enough car to contend for the win, but didn’t want to rough up Christian to advance on-track.

“We just rode there a while and tried to race Ray clean, and that’s what happens.  It takes you a while to get around somebody without rooting them out of there.  The car is fast, obviously, this year.  I’ll give him this one, but the next one’s mine.”

Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. also passed Christian in the closing laps to secure the final spot on the podium.  “Joey Pole” was pleased with his finish after battling brake issues throughout the evening.

“We had a good car, but early on, I lost the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor.  I’d have to back off a little bit, then I could charge again, then I’d lose it again.  Something going on with the brakes, but Angelo’s been on a roll lately and Luke is always good here.”

Christian ultimately finished fourth, snapping a streak of three consecutive Granite State Pro Stock Series wins at Claremont Motorsports Park.  Jake Matheson rounded out the top five.
