Ty Majeski travelled all the way from Wisconsin to Florida expecting to be competing for wins, as well as the overall World Series of Asphalt Speedway Racing Super Late Model championship at New Smynra Speedway (FL). It took just two nights for the ARCA Midwest Tour champion to find his way to victory lane.
Majeski had one of the faster times in time trials, but started ninth courtesy of the top-10 invert. That didn’t seem to faze him, though, as he quickly started to pick cars off, passing them whenever he could. Majeski even made a daring three-wide move to the bottom of turn one early in the 35-lap feature.
After getting to the front, Majeski went to work on trying to get by the leader, Garrett Jones. The two drivers put on a wild battle for the lead, running side-by-side for quite a few laps, and even making contact at times before Majeski finally cleared Jones with less than five laps to go.
“That was a heck of a race,” Majeski said in victory lane. “We qualified second and started ninth and just picked them off one by one.”
Jones led a majority of the race, but just wasn’t strong enough when he needed to be in order to hold off Majeski.
“We had a great side-by-side battle for a while,” said Jones. “We made a little bit of contact, and then he got by me. That’s racing. I’m pretty sure we’ll get us one here by the end of the week. We had a great car tonight.”
The Super Late Models now get a two day break before coming back for another 35-lap feature on Tuesday night, and that’s something that has Majeski excited.
“We have a two day break here so it gives us a lot of momentum,” said Majeski. “We don’t have wrecked race cars so we can chill out these next two days and watch some racing.”
The World Series of Asphalt Speedway Racing from New Smyrna Speedway continues on Sunday with the ACT Late Models 100-lap race, and the 150-lap feature for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East.
