Florida Governor’s Cup winner Ty Majeski started 2016 off with a statement, posting the fastest lap of Speedfest 2016 in the final session of the day with a whopping time of 15.756 seconds around the D-shaped oval of Crisp Motorsports Park in Cordele, Georgia.
The Seymour, Wisconsin native drove head to head against John Hunter Nemecheck all day, landing the two at the top of the charts together in practices two and five. However, Majeski would top Nemechek by four one-hundredths of a second in the overall charts at the end of the day.
In the Pro Late Model practice Nemecheck had the fastest car all day, eventually finishing atop the board alongside Five Flags Speedway (FL) Blizzard Series champion Casey Roderick, each with fast times of 16.089 seconds.
Also near the top of the Super Late Model field was the 2016 Red Eye 100 and Orange Blossom 100 winner Cole Anderson. The No. 97 car posted the seventh fastest time of the day with a 15.935 second lap. Cole started the day out of the car with team owner Anthony Campi shaking down the setup before the rookie jumped into the car and made laps in every session trying to get experience at a track where he has almost none.
Kyle Busch Motorsports also had a guest driver in the No. 51 machine. That car will be driven by none other than the boss, Kyle Busch, on Sunday, but on Friday it was Christopher Bell in the car throughout the day preparing it for Busch who is set to arrive on Saturday in Cordele. While Bell may have only posted the 13th fastest time on the day, the team was more focused on getting the car as close to the liking of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion as possible on Friday.
You will not find Bubba Pollard at the top of the speed charts. He struggled to find speed all day in his No. 26 machine, finishing only 21st on the board. Pollard spent much of the day choosing which car to commit to for the rest of the weekend. He ran two different cars on Friday, but that is allowable as nobody went through technical inspection.
