After making his first career SPEARS SRL Southwest Series start at Kern County Raceway Park (CA) in October, Dylan Lupton is gearing up for his first Winter Showdown attempt at the same facility when the fifth annual event takes place on February 1-2, 2019.

Lupton finished 17th in his SRL debut at the Bakersfield, California oval after getting no practice for the weekend due to a family obligation and starting 27th.

Lupton is a former NASCAR K&N Pro Series West competitor who finished as its championship runner-up in 2014. The Wilton, California driver has multiple wins in the K&N West Series for the Bob Bruncati Racing Team. He also has four NASCAR Monster Energy Cup starts on his resume, as well as 35 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts. Eleven of those starts came this season behind the wheel of the No. 28 JGL Racing entry. He has also participated in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the ARCA Racing Series.

Prior to his SRL debut at Kern County in October, Lupton had been out of the driver's seat for over four months, dating back to his last Xfinity Series start at Pocono Raceway on June 2. He used the event as a test session for the upcoming Winter Showdown in his new Super Late Model purchased from Wilson Motorsports.

"Our team is definitely doing its homework now, so we are a threat for the win come February," Lupton told the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series. "There would be no greater way to start off the new season than with a win at the Showdown."

Lupton has been following the event from afar, and he has witnessed the race grow over the years. He is excited to have the opportunity to compete in the $30,000-to-win feature for the first time.

"This will be my first time competing in the Winter Showdown at Kern, and I'm already counting down the days," Lupton said. "Over the last few years, this race has turned into one of the biggest races in the country, with big names coming from all over."

Helping Lupton attend this year's $150,000 event in Bakersfield, CA is Fatal Clothing and Lupton Excavation. This year's Winter Showdown will feature a 300-lap main event for the Super Late Models, the SPEARS Manufacturing Modified Series presented by Lucas Oil (formerly Lucas Oil Modified Series) and the Kern County Raceway Super Stock division.
