Local Racer Gets Back to New Smyrna Victory Lane in a Super Late Model

The Red Eye 50/50 at New Smyrna Speedway traditionally kicks off the Late Model Season each year, bringing together an eclectic group of local racers and out of town guests looking to start their season with a victory. Saturday night’s edition was no different, as drivers like Jesse Dutilly and Michael Hinde fought to hold off the likes of Ryan Moore and Kris Wright.

At the end of the day, it was local veteran racer Jeff Scofield returning to victory lane at the famous half-mile in his first start at the track since 2016.

“You know, it feels good to be back in the Super,” said Scofield in victory lane. “I ran the Sportsman here lately and it feels good to be back in the Super. There’s just nothing like a Super and we’ll get it dialed in. It’s our first time out with the FURY we got from them guys and it’s going to be a rocket ship once we get it dialed in. I gotta get back in shape. Trim down some of this weight here a little bit. But I think we did pretty good here tonight.”

Jesse Dutilly finished second on the night in his No. 30 machine.

“With the 50 lap race and the invert we weren’t able to get there,” said Dutilly. “I feel like we had a car capable of winning. It’s tough to pass here and it was definitely a hard fought second. So, we brought it home in one piece and we’ll go to the next race and get a little better.”

Michael Hinde finished third on the evening in his first start at New Smyrna with Jett Motorsports.

“This was our first time coming here,” said Hinde. “Big thanks to Jett Motorsports and my mom and dad for making this all possible. We had the car to beat tonight. I tried getting around Scofield a couple times. I thought we had them. I’m still just learning and getting seat time. I don’t think we could have done much better our first time here. I look forward to coming here again.”

Teams now head back to the shop and get set for the 2021 edition of The World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, kicking off February 5th.
