One year ago, Speed51.com released a story about the influx of big-money asphalt Super Late Model races being held throughout North America. At the time, that list included 25 events from coast to coast. Today, that number continues to grow and now sits at 30 events paying a minimum of $10,000 to win.
Over the last five years, the number of Super Late Model races paying $10,000 or more has increased dramatically. Just a few years ago, a research project done by the Speed51.com staff showed less than 15 big-money races.
In addition to the winner’s check that is distributed at these races, we’ve also noticed an increase in the money distributed throughout the field. Many of these events pay at least $1,000 to start, with some paying as much as $3,000 to start.
With the bigger purses comes bigger risks for short track racing promoters. Putting up big money isn’t something that is simply done. It takes a lot of work behind the scenes and it involves a risk factor. Because of this, promoters that do take that risk should be applauded for their effort to give short track racers a chance to race for big money.
Below is the list of events that are paying at least $10,000 to win for Super Late Models in 2018.
Disclaimer: Most of the information obtained came from online resources regarding this year’s or last year’s events. This is a tentative list as not all schedules are out and some purses are not yet finalized.
