Ladies Night Breaks Out at Millbridge Speedway

Three different female racers went to victory lane Wednesday night at Millbridge Speedway, sweeping the three divisions of Outlaw Kart and Micro Sprint racing at the Salisbury, North Carolina facility for the night.

In the Winged Micro Sprint feature, Gray Leadbetter piloted the Factor 1 East No. 1 to her first career win in the Micro Sprints at Millbridge.  After a slow start to the evening in qualifying, Leadbetter rallied through the heat race and 30-lap feature to take the checkered flag.

I’m just excited.  After qualifying 17th, I did not expect this,” said Leadbetter in victory lane.  “The track just came to us.  Brad did an amazing job on setup, so it went better than I thought.

Leadbetter started eighth in the feature, but quickly worked her way through the field.  Leadbetter took the lead on lap nine and led the rest of the way.

While Micro Sprint racing at Millbridge typically favors running right against the outside wall, the bottom lane proved to be the dominant one on Wednesday.  For Leadbetter, this played right into her strengths.

“I actually like running the bottom.  I don’t know why.  The top’s fun, but the bottom requires more finesse and not as many people can do it.  I didn’t know how close anyone was.  I just tried to hold my line and not get caught up in lapped traffic.”

Emma Francis made her second trip to victory lane on the season, taking the win in the Intermediate division.  Francis led all 20 laps of the Intermediate feature.

“The day started out a little rough, but we just kept getting better and better,” said Francis.  “We came out, made very few mistakes in the feature, it was a nice, clean race.”

Katie Yonchuk started the evening’s feature racing with a win in the Jr. Wing division.  The division is the newest one at Millbridge, providing a stepping stone between the Box Stocks and Intermediate or Open Outlaw Karts.

Millbridge Speedway will be back in action next Tuesday and Wednesday, April 20-21.  Fans unable to attend will be able to watch live on Speed51.TV.
