(King, NC): Modified racing returns to upstate South Carolina Friday, August 15th as the stars of the KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series return to Anderson Motor Speedway for the running of the “Circle K 125”.
“We are so proud to be back at Anderson Motor Speedway with the new Southern Modified Race Tour and KOMA Unwind Relaxation Drink”, said SMRT Series Director, Randy Myers. “We came here many times when Sylvia Porter’s dad, Rupert operated the track. We were here the very first year of the old SMART Modified tour in 1989 and had some great racing through the years. We are happy that Sylvia has given us the chance to return. The “seasoned” asphalt here has always presented a challenge to drivers. Pit or not to pit, change a tire or try to stretch the wear to the end? Those are always the question”, Myers said.
The entry list for the “Circle K 125” includes some heavy hitters in Modified racing headed by the TV series “Madhouse” drivers Tim Brown and the Myers Brothers, Jason and Burt. Burt Myers and Brown are already winners on the new KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series this year with other winners, David Calabrese and Zach Brewer also on the list. Burt Myers leads younger brother Jason in the season long chase for the series championship. Short track specialist Jeff Fultz, no stranger to the Anderson asphalt, is also on the entry list along with Bobby Sheffield, Johnny Sutton, Mike Norman and NASCAR “Cup” winner Jeremy Mayfield on his comeback trail.
The KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series also features a Modified Light division competing in a race-within-a-race format. Jimmy Wallace heads that list along with Austin Thompson, a newcomer to the series.
Fans will love the 125 green flag lap format with “rolling starts and restarts, a mandatory pit stop and optional tire change. Double-file restarts featuring the “KOMA Kan” that allows drivers to choose their lane for restarts always spices up the action. So grab a good seat and get ready for some 600 horsepower, open-wheel excitement Southern modified style this Friday night at Anderson Motor Speedway.
Qualifying is set for 6:45 PM followed by a big autograph session at 7:15. Racing kicks off at 8:00. Also on tap is racing for the local warriors in the BM Modifieds, the Front Wheel Drives and the US Legends cars.
