WATCH LIVE: Patriot Shootout at Millbridge
Kofoid will be making his Micro Sprint debut driving for Christopher Bell during the midweek event, taking place Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25-26, at Millbridge. So far, Kofoid has been enjoying the fresh experience.
“I’ve never been in a Micro before, obviously,” Kofoid told Speed51. “It was fun to get some practice and try it out. It’s been pretty fun so far.”
Kofoid, who currently leads the USAC National Midget Series points standings, took part in open practice Monday at Millbridge Speedway. He found several similarities between the Micro Sprint and the Keith Kunz Motorsports Midgets he typically races.
Running Midgets, I had a similar feel, I figured it would be pretty similar and it was. Just the way you sit is different. At Millbridge, it’s right up against the fence, so it’s a unique style of racing. Being able to do it for Christopher and race with him and hang out has been pretty fun.
Kofoid and Bell have naturally crossed paths in the Midget racing world, especially through their shared connections with Keith Kunz Motorsports and Toyota. That made for an easy connection when Bell was looking a driver for his Micro Sprint for the Patriot Shootout.
“I’ve gotten to know Christopher in the past couple of years, especially being with Keith [Kunz], racing for KKM, I’ve gotten to know him pretty good. Obviously, we’re both racing with Toyota. I think he texted me if I was busy this week.
“We put it together, figured out logistically if it would work and put it together. I can’t thank him enough for doing it and I’m looking forward to having some fun with him and trying something new.”
While it has been several years and it happened in an Outlaw Kart, Kofoid has raced at Millbridge Speedway before. He expects his return to the Salisbury, North Carolina facility to be plenty of fun in a Micro Sprint.
“I ran an Outlaw Kart there six or seven years ago. It seems to be a lot different now, but it’s a nice place. It gets up on the fence, for sure, but I think it will race good and be a lot of fun.”
