Waterford, CT – Area thunderstorms and torrential downpours delayed the start of Saturdays night’s Valenti Modified Racing Series 100-lap event for four hours, but when the green flag finally dropped on the 22-car field, Keith Rocco, of Berlin, CT, thanks to a pole position start, dominated the event to capture his first VMRS win of the season. Rocco is the sixth different winner in 2018

The victory was Rocco’s seventh series win tying him with Louie Mechalides and New England Hall of Fame driver Dwight Jarvis. Rocco’s last series win was October 17, 2015.

The starting lineup was determined from times in the second group practice session. The threat of rain forced cancellation of qualifying heat races.

Right from the start Rocco, the tracks all-time race winner, received consistent pressure from series newcomer Dylan Izzo, of Monroe CT, who started alongside Rocco. The young charger made a quick impression driving the Prestige Motorsports  # 13 driven last season by the late Ted Christopher. Izzo finished runner-up with a fast closing Dave Schneider, of Northport, NY, a solid third. Madison, CT, veteran Mike Holdridge was fourth, with Kenny Barry, of Preston, CT, rounding out the top five.

Richard Savary, Donnie Lashua, Sammy Rameau, and Jeffrey Gallup finished sixth through tenth.

Unofficial Order of Finish: (1) Rocco, (2) Izzo, (3) Schneider, (4) Holdridge, (5) Barry, (6) Savary, (7) Lashua, (8) Pitkat, (9) Rameau, (10) Gallup, (11) Molleur, (12) Sontag, (13) Robbie, (14) Willis Jr, (15) Perry, (16) Etheridge, (17) Nocella, (18) Rock, (19) Sherman, (20) Bolton, (21) Flannery, (22) Boyle  (DNS) Zachem.
