Ali Kern appears to have taken a liking to hot Indiana summers.
Kern laid down a 15.528-second lap to set quick time for Monday’s ARCA/CRA Super Series Winchester 100 at Winchester Speedway, her second-consecutive fast lap. Kern also set quick time for the August 22 race at Baer Field Speedway.
Scott Hantz ended the session in second with a time of 15.538 seconds. NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular Daniel Hemric (15.568) ended the session in third, with Cody Coughlin (15.572) and Jeff Fultz (15.582) rounding out the top five.
Quentin Bear ended the session in sixth, with Harrison Burton finishing in seventh after topping final practice for the ARCA/CRA Super Series earlier in the day. Bret Holmes, MudSummer Classic winner Christopher Bell and Terry Fisher, Jr. made up the rest of the top 10.
Fisher and Bell will lead the field to the green flag as a result of a 10-position inversion. Kern will roll off 10th.
(EDITOR NOTE: Terry Fisher Jr. was penalized for not qualifying in his proper position. The penalty for that infraction is only one lap in qualifying and not being able to start any higher than 11th. Fisher, who qualified tenth, will now start eleventh. As a result, Stephen Nasse, who qualified eleventh, will move into the tenth slot and therefore, will start on the pole due to the invert of ten determined after qualifying. Later in the evening, Dominique VanWieringen and Tommy St. John withdrew from competition.)
A healthy field of 31 cars made their way onto the World’s Fastest Half-Mile in Winchester, Indiana to make a qualifying attempt on a hot Sunday afternoon, with only .674 seconds separating the Kern and 31st-place Trent Snyder.
The ARCA/CRA Super Series will return on Monday for a Labor Day feature as part of Winchester’s World Stock Car Festival.
