Kern County Raceway Park, Bakersfield’s Home to NASCAR, announced today their new President/General Manager and new Media and Marketing Director.
Lee Baumgarten, who has a 25 year history with NASCAR at tracks in Saugus, CA, Tucson and Phoenix, AZ, has taken the position as KCRP’s first GM and President. Mr. Baumgarten, who was responsible for the extremely popular “Winter Heat” Series at Tucson Speedway in the late 80’s through the mid 90’s brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has also spent the last 15 years as the Director of Operations at Phoenix International Speedway. This fall he directed and organized PIR’s “Memory Lane” as part of the tracks 50th Anniversary season. Speaking on his experience so far in Bakersfield, Lee had this to say, “I am thrilled to be associated with this outstanding state of the art facility. Owners Charlie Beard, Rusty Risi, and James Vernon did their homework and Kern County Raceway Park is clearly one of the premier short tracks in America! Then mix in this great professional motorsports team that has been put together and you have a winning recipe. Finally, I can’t say enough about the friendly warm welcome my wife Holly and I have received from everyone in Kern County.
Steve Hughes has taken over the Media and Marketing Director position, and is a lifelong Bakersfield resident. Hughes, who has been a staple of the local racing scene for the last 20 years as an announcer at The Bakersfield Speedway and Mesa Marin Raceway, has spent the last decade as an account executive for Buck Owens productions. He moves on to handle the media and marketing of KCRP as well as the lead announcer duties on race nights. Steve, who brings excitement to every lap of racing, commented on his new position. “With Bakersfield’s rich history of motorsports, it’s such an honor to be part of carrying on that tradition at such an amazing and growing facility” “I’m excited to work year round with the dedicated racing fans, racers, and partners who have made the first two seasons at KCRP a success.
Kern County Raceway Park, Bakersfield’s Home to NASCAR, is located at Interstate 5 and Enos Lane. KCRP is a state of the art Half-Mile, Quarter Mile and Eighth Mile Speedway. The Racetracks third full season will begin in late March. Full race schedule to be released soon.
