Rochester Hills, Michigan — Motor City Racing Promotions, the sanctioning body for the Midwest Indoor Racing Series has been hard at work preparing for the fourth winter racing season of competition. The fastest growing indoor racing series in the country continues preparations for the upcoming winter racing season as one event, spanning over two days on the schedule has become the traditional door opener for the Rochester Hills, Michigan based series and those dates are official.

The 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Classic Weekend is set for Friday-Saturday, November 27-28th as Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan will serve as host. In addition to the third consecutive running of the Thanksgiving Classic Weekend, plans also call for two more events to be announced at a later date. Several other announcements are also forthcoming regarding the remainder of the 2015/2016 winter racing series schedule and much more within the Midwest Indoor Racing Series and its sanctioning body; Motor City Racing Promotions.

“Last year’s Thanksgiving Classic featured some of the best racing of the year, indoors or outdoors.” remarked Motor City Racing Promotions Founder / President, Scott Menlen. “This Thanksgiving Classic is going to be a big event with two days full of racing action inside Kellogg Arena. We’re appreciative of the entire management and staff of Kellogg Arena for providing us a great venue to race at and we look forward to continuing our relationship for many years to come.” Menlen added.

The opening race weekend in southern Michigan will feature two nights of racing starting on Friday, November 27th leading into the headlining night of action on Saturday, November 28th. Full arrays of divisions are scheduled to compete throughout the weekend. Friday’s action will be headlined by the 600cc Mini Sprints, in the running of the Thanksgiving Classic Friday Night Shootout. In 2014, the shootout was won by Monrovia, Indiana native, Drew Dorsett in his #11 Suphten Fire Trucks machine.

In Saturday’s lineup, the divisions on hand includes; 600cc Mini Sprints, Mini Cup Cars, Go-Karts, Quarter Midgets and Lawn Mowers. All specific divisions for both days are in the process of being finalized and will be announced soon. In 2014, the 600cc Mini Sprints kicked off the 2014/2015 winter season with a thrilling 50-lap headliner. 15-year-old at the time, Chase Ridenour started on the pole and paced the field for the first 30 laps until suddenly slowing bringing out the yellow flag. The defending series champion would get power restored, but would have to start at the tail of the field. This gave the lead to Peter Hathaway who had Friday Night Shootout winner, Drew Dorsett on his back nerf bar.

Dorsett, who started 13th, would grab the lead with just three laps to go only to see Hathaway regroup and slide back past Dorsett a lap later. Hathaway in his #16 Sweet Manufacturing entry would then hang on to score the upset victory to give the Kalamazoo, Michigan native his first career MIRS Feature Win. Dorsett settled for second with Ridenour recovering to finish third. Clay Sanders was fourth as John Ivy completed the top five.
