NO. STONINGTON, CT – Outside the Box Promotions is proud to announce the partnership with the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for the Karting to Conquer Cancer event, at On Track Karting in Wallingford, CT, on January 16.
Solely supporting Boston, MA’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, The Jimmy Fund raises funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research to improve the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world. Since 1948, the Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars through many different community fundraising events, including such grassroots events as bake sales, dances, and softball games.
Event Coordinator Bryon Callen is excited about the chance to raise money for the cause, commenting “The first moment Josh and I spoke about putting together an event, there really was no question as to what we wanted as the charity. With both of our family’s history with cancer, it only seemed a natural fit.”
Callen continued, praising the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, saying, “With Dana-Farber Cancer Institute we are truly blessed to have the world leader in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research right in our back yard. This is just a small way of being able to assist in giving back. We have opened this event up to 144 racers and fans to come out for a fun filled day on the track!”
With over 4,000 employees, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is unique among cancer centers, with an equal commitment to research and patient care, seeing over 380,000 patients a year, and is involved in 760 clinical trials. In 2010, Dana-Farber became the first hospital in New England to set and reach a fundraising goal of $1 billion, raising $1.18 billion for cancer research and care, new technology, and construction of the Yawkey Center for Cancer Care.
OTB Promotions Vice President Josh Vanada had this to say about the Karting to Conquer Cancer (K2CC), “We are pleased to organize an event in order to raise funds to fight such a widespread and life-changing disease. Cancer personally touched our family in 1999, and my Dad received life-saving treatment at Dana-Farber, so the K2CC is deeply personal for us, and we are proud to partner with the Jimmy Fund and DFCI. The thing that is really cool about this event is that we get to do something we love, and the results can only be positive. It’s also a terrific opportunity for fans to race against the region’s most talented grassroots motorsports drivers.”
Knowing the affect cancer has had in the lives of drivers, fans, and their own families, Outside the Box Promotions decided to host the Karting to Conquer Cancer event in order to raise funds to help end this horrible disease.
