WATCH LIVE: Slinger Nationals at Slinger Super Speedway
He has won marquee races in his home state of Wisconsin – he won the Dixieland 250 back in 2017 after Kyle Busch was disqualified in post-race tech. He finished second in last year’s Slinger Nationals to Ty Majeski, now he looks to get one spot better and add another trophy to his collection.
“I’m feeling pretty good, we ran second to Ty here last year,” Johnson told Speed51. “We’re bringing the same car back, so I like our odds.”
Johnson has gone back and replayed the final 100 laps of last year’s Slinger Nationals since last July, wondering what he could’ve done differently that would have given him a better shot at winning. He hopes to use what he has learned in that time for when it gets to crunch time late in Tuesday night’s 200-lap feature.
I rewatch the video every once in a while. After that halfway break we were able to look inside Ty and we both bobbled a little bit and Fenhaus was able to get by me. I think if I would’ve been more patient we would’ve been able to race for the lead a lot longer with maybe a different outcome, but who knows
The 2021 season has been a busy one for Johnson, chasing three different championships with the Midwest Tour, TUNDRA and Alive For Five Series. Along with his driving duties, he has also been fielding rides for Alabama young gun Grant Thompson and Wisconsin driver Grant Griesbach in races around the state.
“It’s been real smooth so far. Grant Thompson’s been going a great job. We actually had Grant Griesbach drive my other car out here last week and he finished third, he’ll actually be racing here with it. So far everything’s been smooth and hopefully we can keep it rolling.”
Johnson will have a busy Slinger Nationals Tuesday night. Along with competing in the race himself, he will have a second car for Griesbach and his efforts in the event.
For a driver who has already accomplished so much in the state of Wisconsin, a win in the Slinger Nationals would be another feather in the cap for the Edgerton, WI driver.
“That would be huge with it being a big-paying race and guys coming from down south. The Slinger Nationals is definitely a staple of Midwest racing.”
