The winter has been a cold one, but things are thawing out along the Gulf Coast with the racing flame beginning to flicker and area race teams heating up their preparations for the 2015 season.

On Saturday, January 31st, a pre-season event that draws large crowds of high-performance enthusiasts will return to 5 Flags Speedway when the 9th Annual Racers Swap Meet opens its gates.

Presented by 5 Flags Speedway, the Racers Swap Meet is an opportunity for racers to turn unwanted parts into cash or parts of need. Past years have seen items from complete turn-key cars, right down to springs, shocks and carburetors.

Last year’s event saw buyers and sellers from Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Florida, representing not only the asphalt and dirt oval track markets, but drag racers and street rodders alike.

There is no admission charge and no buyer’s fee, with the only cost for this event being a one-time seller’s fee of $25. This fee is good to sell anything from a complete car to an entire truck load of parts.

The gates will open at 8:00am with the sale scheduled from 9:00am to 12:00pm. There will be food concessions available and free prizes will also be given out over the course of the day.

Following the Racer’s Swap Meet, which takes place in the Speedway parking lot, attendees are invited to enter the Grandstand Gates for the first ever running of the Sweat Hogg Grand Prix. This two-hour, enduro style event will pit 40, front wheel drive, completely stock cars in competition for the $1000 top prize on a course comprised of half oval and half road course. The SHGP will be followed by Super Moto action featuring some of the top riders in the southeast. Admission to the race events will be $5.
