The driver everyone will be chasing is Steve Needles. Not only does he holds the series point lead going into the finale, he has also won both runnings of the Dixie Classic since it was restarted in 2018. He won Reveal The Hammer races at New Paris Speedway and Berlin Raceway, and he also won the 2020 makeup of the Kalamazoo Klash.
Along with Needles, former race winners Mike Root, Harold Fair, Jr. and Scott Hantz are also entered looking to add another Dixie Classic win.
One driver who is in search of his first Dixie Classic win is four-time and defending Kalamazoo Klash champion Tyler Roahrig. Birch Run is one of very few tracks he hasn’t won at in an Outlaw SLM, and he looks to change that Saturday night.
Kyle Crump is on a career hot-streak, having won both the Redbud 400 and Battle at Berlin on the Template Late Model side. He now looks to translate that success to his home track with his first Outlaw SLM win.
They will all take on local favorites such as two-time JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour champion Dan Leeck, Jason Felver and Blake Childers. A full potential entry list can be found below.
The Dixie Classic is one of the longest-running events, having been first run back in 1966 when Eastern Michigan legend Joy Fair went to victory lane. The early years saw names such as Ed Howe, Mike Eddy, Denny Nyari and Randy Sweet grace victory lane at what was then called Dixie Motor Speedway. John Doering, Jr. has the most wins in the event with seven.
The race took a three-year hiatus in 2015, returning in 2018 under the Main Event Outlaw Tour banner. Steve Needles won the Dixie Classic in both 2018 and 2019, and could become the first driver to win three straight since Steve Sauve did so in 1999-2001.
He also leads the Reveal The Hammer points race by 26 over Shawn Amor going into Saturday. With a championship Saturday, he will have won the last three Outlaw Super Late Model touring series titles dating back to 2018 and 2019 when he won the Main Event Outlaw Tour championships.
