Nick Hoffman was the man to beat in the 52-car UMP Modified division at the Dirt Track at Charlotte this weekend. The DIRTcar Nationals DIRTcar Modified champion outdueled Will Krup, David Stremme and Taylor Cook for the victories.

Two-time defending World Short Track Champion, Kyle Strickler, laid down the quickest lap overall on Saturday in qualifying. Slade Parsons and Drake Troutman were quickest in their respective groups.

The UMP Modified heat race wins were collected by KC Burdette, Ken Schrader, Michael Altoloelli, Devin Dixon and Nick Hoffman, which put their feature starting position in the hands of the redraw on Sunday.

Troy Johnson and Ken Schrader would be the drivers to lead the field to green for their 30-lap feature on Sunday. Hoffman jumped to the lead early and never looked back. Despite a hard-charging, Kyle Strickler, who started 11th and Taylor Cook, who started 24th along with Will Krug battling for the lead, Hoffman went on to see the checkered flags and pick up his first win at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“We had a pretty good car,” Hoffman said.  “Strickler gave me a run there and Dad told me that he was running the top, so I blasted the top for a couple of laps and I don’t really know what happened to him after that.

“We don’t race around here very often and it’s really one of the only races we’ve ran here, so it’s cool to be able to win,” Hoffman said. “We have a lot of family and friends here. Everybody came out to support this event. It just means a lot. I think we really made a statement here this weekend.”

The UMP Modified Invitiational feature was next on tap for Hoffman as he started from the pole. Again, it was smooth sailing for Hoffman as he had a sizable lead over Will Krup and David Stremme. Hoffman scored his second victory in one day at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“It’s cool that they do the Invitational for us to run too,” Hoffman said. “I won the Gator this year and that’s the reason why we were able to run this feature too. I left my setup the same and just put on older tires so we wouldn’t burn our stuff up. It’s really neat to be able to pick up two wins in one day.”
