Eddie Hoffman has been searching for an extra “tick” of speed for most of the early part of the season at Grundy County Speedway.

Friday night he found it, and parlayed it into his second late-model feature victory.

The Wheaton native came from seven starting spots back to chase down and pass Brandon Clubb with seven laps remaining.

A yellow flag with one lap left created a potential drag race to the finish, but Hoffman was able to pull away from Clubb on the restart without a problem.

“It was nice to be a tick faster than the other guys,” Hoffman said. “We’d been a tick slower the last few weeks.

“This was nice to get with the big one coming up next week.”

The ARCA Midwest Tour Wayne Carter Classic is slated for June 20.

Hoffman didn’t have an easy time getting to the front. It took several laps to work his way past veteran Larry Schuler. Once he did, Hoffman steadily reeled in Clubb before making his move on the bottom.

“He gave me some room right away,” Hoffman said of Clubb. “We started (the pass) in three and four and were able to finish it in one and two.”

Clubb held on for second, ahead of Schuler, points leader Ricky Baker, Chris Cooling and Scott Koerner.

Tom Knippenberg continues to mow down the field in the Mid-American division. He captured his fifth victory after a lap 6 pass of Luke Baldwin. Joe Vinachi finished second, with Kevin Gentile, John Ventrello, Baldwin and Vince Cooper completing the top six.

The street stock feature went to Pat Kelly over Jake Bradley, Pete Odell, Logan Love, Jacob McKown and Rob Scamen.

A good battle in the Illinois Vintage Series main event saw a neck-and-neck battle between Woody Pool and Tom Jones, with Pool prevailing.

Zach Sontag captured the pure stocks feature over Spencer Leake.
