Van Buren, AR — Dennis Schoenfeld and his family were involved in a near head-on collision two weeks ago en route to a football game in Jacksonville, FL. While making the transition to Interstate 22 near Olive Branch, MS an oncoming car turned left in front of Schoenfeld who was traveling at approximately 55 mph.
Dennis suffered a broken tibia, while his wife Bonnie had some bruises and soft tissue injuries. Dennis Jr. and Michael, in the rear seat, suffered minor bumps and bruises. Dennis was taken to a local hospital in Olive Branch and received excellent care and attention. Surgery was required to repair his “go-fast leg” and after a few days Dennis was able to return to Van Buren.
“I’m just thankful that everyone is okay and we’re all back home resting,” Dennis commented. “Who knows, maybe the new titanium rod and associated screws will allow me to mash the throttle just a little harder. I really hate that we will miss this year’s 49th Snowball Derby. We had concentrated our racing efforts in the Blizzard Series to prepare for the Derby and we were really looking forward to making a strong run this year with all of our loyal sponsors on board.”
In true racer fashion, Schoenfeld and his family will still be present for the Derby festivities, but just not in the driver’s seat.
“We had already made reservations for our house on the beach so we thought it would be nice to head south, continue to rest my leg, enjoy the warm sun and be around the people we truly love, our racing friends,” Dennis related. “All of our sponsors have been great through this whole ordeal and we really appreciate their support. It will be fun to watch Paul Schloss from Advanced Medical Laboratories make his debut in his new Sportsman car.”
Schoenfeld will be formulating his racing plans for 2017 and looks forward to having all his sponsors onboard for another exciting season. Our sincere thanks to all those who have supported our efforts in 2016: Schoenfeld Headers, Rick’s Used Auto Parts, Advanced Medical Laboratories, Sonny Davis, Inc., Frost Oil Company, CSM Corporation, Charlotte Plating Inc., Motorsports Designs, Kluhsman Racing Components, Racing Electronics, Allstar Performance, Five Star Race Car Bodies and Midwest Automation.
