Hickory Motor Speedway announced today that an additional $1,000 has been raised to the regular Saturday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bojangles Late Model Stock Car purse and each of the events will now be 100 laps.

HMS already has a 10-race Paramount Kia “Big 10” series that features 100-lap events for the Late Models.  In addition to those events, the non-“Big 10” events will also now be 100 laps in distance.  The regular events were scheduled to be 50 laps before today’s announcement.

“You have to be willing to listen and make changes when necessary,” said Kevin Piercy, HMS General Manager in a press release Thursday.  “We have felt for some time that we needed more support on our 50 lap events and after last Saturday night’s opener it was obvious what needed to be done.”

According to the press release, the Late Model purse for the regular, non-“Big 10” events will now pay $1,500 to the winner, with a pay increase throughout the field, making the regular events similar in pay structure to the “Big 10” events.

The first of the extra-distance regular events for the Hickory Late Models comes this Saturday, March 14.  Also on the card are the Limited Late Models, Super Trucks, Street Stocks and the Classic Sportsman Racing Series.
