WALKER, Mich. – Young Michigan charger Brandon Hermiller thinks his first career Super Late Model feature victory at Berlin Raceway is just around the corner. The driver of the H.S. Die/VISI-TST Ford gets two shots at his target this week on his home track as the division will be in action on July 30th and August 2nd.
“It’s really cool that we’ll get two opportunities to win this week on our home track,” said Hermiller, the former Pro Stock champion and Most Popular Driver at Berlin. “We’re getting closer every week I think. Like I have said a lot lately, finishing all the laps, running up front and leading laps has us firmly heading in the right direction. I really don’t think it would surprise many folks if they see our No. 6 in Victory Lane this week.”
Hermiller’s first opportunity to capture the elusive SLM feature win comes in Wednesday night’s special race card on the demanding 0.4375-mile oval. Highlighting the evening’s action will be the $10,000-to-win “Money in the Bank 125” Outlaw Late Model feature. The Super Late Models will compete in a 60-lap feature on Wednesday night.
The hard-charging 21-year-old driver’s second chance to claim a feature race checkered flag this week comes in Saturday’s “Mike Becker Memorial Night” when the Super Late Models will again go at it in another 60-lapper.
“We’ll be ready to really get after it this week at Berlin,” said Hermiller. “We pulled the plug on going to Indy for the CRA race last week at the last minute. We based our decision on the economics of the value of running there with the travel expenses and all. We love running with the CRA guys and their officials are so supportive of us. We’ll be back running with them in a couple of weeks and we’re looking forward to it.
“So our cars have been sitting on the jack stands in the shop totally prepared to head back to Berlin,” Hermiller said. “When you look back on the last three weekends there, man it’s hard to not be super excited about these upcoming races.”
Hermiller’s recent statistics on his home track have been impressive indeed. His Josh Slade-led team has grown to be among the strongest competing in Berlin Raceway’s Super Late Model division. He has a 2.5 average start and 5.0 average finish during Berlin SLM competition held there since the beginning of June.
During the July 19th ARCA/CRA Super Series 251-lap “Battle of Berlin” feature, Hermiller established himself as a bonafide frontrunner in the top level of Super Late Model competition. He qualified eighth and finished seventh. He ran as high as second in the running order late in the race.
“Yeah, we can’t help but think of the momentum we’ve been building at Berlin during the last several races,” said Hermiller. “We’ve been so consistent and competitive in each and every race. It’s like all the great experience we’ve been getting racing against the regulars in the Supers paid dividends when the CRA guys came to town. It’s back to running against our local great drivers again for the next two races. If we can beat them, we’ve beaten some of the best drivers out there.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun and we can’t wait,” said Hermiller. “It’s a special opportunity to get two shots at winning in one week at Berlin during the season. We hope to capitalize on that.”
Hermiller’s No. 6 H.S. Die/VISI-TST Ford Fusion also carries sponsorship from River Hills Lodge, West End Body Shop, T.A.A.G. Tooling and Accessories Group, Stehouwer Frozen Foods and Beaver Research Company during the 2014 season.
Wednesday night’s special “Money is in The Bank” 125 Outlaw Late Model night at Berlin Raceway will also feature the SLM and the Modified in action. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and $5 for kids.
Admission for Saturday’s “Mike Becker Memorial Night” sees tickets set at $12 for adults, $8 for students and $5 for kids. The night’s racing card will feature the SLM, Modified, 4-Cylinders and VROA divisions all in action. It’s “Ladies Night” at the track and all ladies are admitted free of charge.
