WALKER, Mich. – H.S. Die/VISI-TST Ford driver Brandon Hermiller says last Saturday night’s results at Berlin Raceway is a great reflection as to how his 2014 season has gone.  The promising young charger finished fifth in the final points race of the season and closed out the year by moving up to fifth in the track’s final Super Late Model division standings.

“It’s only our second full season racing the Super Late Models and I think we’ve made so much progress this year,” said Hermiller, who mixes his time behind the wheel of his red No. 6 Ford with classroom time at Grand Rapids Community College where he is pursuing a

degree in manufacturing engineering technology.  “I just wish we had a few more races remaining at Berlin.  It was a situation of getting smarter and more competitive every week we raced there.”

Hermiller, a former Berlin Raceway Pro Stock Champion and Most Popular Driver, started ninth and finished fifth in last Saturday night’s 75-lap Super Late Model feature at Berlin.  He closed out the 2014 slate posting a record of three top-five finishes and six top-10’s in the seven regular season races on his home track.  He had a 7.4 average finish on the demanding .4375-mile oval located just west of Grand Rapids.

“Last Saturday night was so indicative of how our season has gone,” said Hermiller.   “We were 10th in qualifying and started the 75-lap feature ninth.  We bided our time and started our move to the front after the first third of the race.  We were up to seventh after 43 laps and in sixth on Lap 48.

“Our car was handling the best through the corners that it had all season there on Saturday night.  I pretty much burned up my tires trying to get by a car for fifth.  If we could have gotten around him a little earlier, I think we could have taken the fourth spot from (Ross) Kenseth.  Our lap times were consistently faster than his.

“That would have really made a big difference in the final point standings,” Hermiller added.  “We wound up finishing fifth, but we were only three points out of fourth.  Just by getting around Kenseth for the position in that race would have been the difference.

“I think that shows just what incredibly competitive racing there is in the Supers (Super Late Model division) at Berlin,” said Hermiller.  “I’d stack that level of competition up with any other track in the country.  Berlin averaged 20 to 25 Supers there for every race.  That’s more than many of the national touring series have had this season.

“We led laps, won a heat race and became consistent top-five finishers this season at Berlin and I am so proud of our progress,” Hermiller said.  “Josh (Slade, crew chief) has done a fantastic job leading our team this year.  We’re a small team and everyone is so committed to do the best we can in preparation at the shop and execution at the track.”

Even though the 2014 Berlin Raceway season has concluded, there is still racing action remaining for Hermiller, Slade and the H.S. Die crew.  Their current schedule calls for them to compete in the Sept. 27-28 ARCA/CRA Super Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Ind., and the ARCA/CRA Super Series weekend at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway on Oct. 11-12.

Hermiller’s No. 6 H.S. Die/VISI-TST Ford Fusion also carries sponsorship from River Hills Lodge, West End Body Shop, T.A.A.G. Tooling and Accessories Group, Stehouwer Frozen Foods and Beaver Research Company during the 2014 season.
