Cameron Hayley set a new track record in qualifying and won his qualifier heat on day one of the third annual Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington.

Hayley set a new mark of 22.002, breaking the old mark of 22.063 to be the fastest out of 52 qualifiers for the $20,000 to win event on Saturday night.

All qualifiers then were lined up for four 25-lap qualifier races. The top-six in each advanced to Saturday’s Summer Showdown.

Hayley will be looking for a sweep this weekend as he won the first qualifier heat. Eric Schmidt was second and Pete Harding was third. Tyler Tanner and Brent Harris rounded out the top five. Jason Kooy got the final transfer spot.

Jim Pettit II cruised to the checkered flag in the second qualifier holding off Shelby Thompson for the win. Defending Summer Showdown winner Jay Sauls was third with Tayler Riddle in fourth. Shane Mitchell and Mark Sunberg round out the top six.

Jason Fraser easily won the third qualifier heat over Gary Lewis. Lewis started sixth and quickly jumped to the runner-up spot. John Bender was third with Jonathon Gomez was fourth. Naima Lang and Ryan Wells earned a starting spot for the Showdown.

Owen Riddle got by Garrett Evans on the opening lap and cruised to the win in the final qualifier heat. Evans was second with Gracin Raz was third. Kelly Mann was fourth. Dustin Ash and Mike Longton get the transfer spots.

Hayley and Pettit will lead the field to the green flag for Saturday night’s Summer Showdown.

Nicole Behar, Mark Sunberg, Braeden Havens, and Blake Williams earn a starting spot in the tomorrow’s 200-lap feature based on their qualifying times.

Josh Ingrim held off Trenton Moriarity to win the 30-lap Mini Stock feature.

Jason McQuinn won the Street Stock 30-lap feature over Chad Fitzpatrick.

The action will get underway at 4pm PDT on Saturday with the Pro-4 Alliance also in action. Speed 51’s Trackside Now presented by JOES Racing Products gets underway at 11am PDT.
