Griffith Going Modified Racing at Lee Oktoberfest

Derek Griffith has enjoyed plenty of success this year in Super Late Model competition.  This weekend, he’ll try out a new challenge, going Tour-type Modified racing as part of Russ Conway’s Oktoberfest at Lee USA Speedway.

Griffith will make his Modified Racing Series debut as the series competes in Twin-40 features as part of the marquee October weekend at the New Hampshire bullring.  It’s a deal that has been years in the making, but wasn’t finalized until days before the race.

“The deal came together a couple days ago,” Griffith told Speed51.  “We have been in talks with Gary [Casella] for racing his car for well over five years, and it just never worked. Well, the timing was perfect this time and it worked.”

While the car is an unfamiliar one for Griffith, Lee USA Speedway is a special venue for him.  Griffith’s first PASS Super Late Model win came at Lee in 2016.

“We’re racing at a track I have a lot of love for and found my first Super Late Model win at as well.  I’m just happy he considered it and we are running a Tour-type modified.”

Saturday’s Modified Racing Series event can be seen live on Speed51.TV as part of this weekend’s coverage of Russ Conway’s Oktoberfest.  Click here to watch live on Saturday.
