Adding to the tradition and the prestige of the Florida Governor’s Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway, track officials announced today that the winner of the 200-lap Super Late Model race on November 23 will be honored with a custom-designed ring created by Jostens.
“The Governor’s Cup ring was designed by Jostens because track owners Rober, Jane and Andrew Hart wanted to do something different for the winner of the historic race,” said New Smyrna Speedway General Manager Kim Brown. “Many tracks simply give a trophy that might collect dust on shelf. This can be worn to other events and races and shown off as a special piece of history.”
In addition to the $15,000 first-place prize, the winner of the race will still have his or her picture taken with the historic Governor’s Cup trophy that has been around since the early days of the race.
Governor’s Cup laps are now on sale, as well. Laps can be sponsored for $100 each with all funds going to the lap leader. The lap sponsor will be posted on the track website, printed on the flier for the event and mentioned during the race itself. Fans, teams or sponsors interested in sponsoring a lap can call Kim Brown at (386) 427-4129. Payment can be made by mailing in a check or calling the track office.
Also announced was an opportunity for one driver and team to leave New Smyrna Speedway on Governor’s Cup weekend with extra cash thanks to the efforts of track operator Jane Hart and the Hart to Heart Breast Cancer Foundation at New Smyrna Speedway. The foundation has put up $1,000 for the farthest tow (car and driver) for the Governor’s Cup itself. The Hart to Heart Breast Cancer Foundation at New Smyrna Speedway is a 501(c)(3) not for profit that was established to help people within the local racing community that are faced with breast cancer. The Hart to Heart Breast Cancer foundation is a year round organization.
The Super Late Model team breakfast is set for November 23rd, the morning of the Governor’s Cup. The event is being sponsored by Eagle Jet International. If teams planning on attending the breakfast could RSVP by Wednesday November 19th with track.
