For the third consecutive season, the FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance made its way to Screven Motorsports Complex (GA) to wrap up the season at the Georgia Outlaw State Championship. Action got underway Friday night with the penultimate event of the season, and when the race concluded it was Twin Cities, Georgia driver Ches Chester taking the checkered flag at the conclusion of an eventful race under the lights.
The race would get underway with defending FASTRAK Racing Series champion Matthew Nance and Ches Chester leading the field to the green flag, with Chester quickly jumping out to the top spot. A handful of caution flags slowed the pace during the first half of the race, including two unassisted yellows for Elliott Sanders and Jordan Benefield.
The big one occurred on a Lap 11 restart when Nance and Chuck Bowie tangled as the entered turn one. Contact was made, sending both cars up the track as several other drivers piled in, including 2019 FASTRAK Racing Series champion Carson Ferguson. Ferguson only needed to take the green flag Friday night to secure the championship at the Sylvania, Georgia 3/8-mile clay oval.
Following the accident, under yellow flag conditions, Nance took matters into his own hands off turn four turning Bowie and then plowing into the right rear of his machine. FASTRAK immediately waved the black flag and disqualified Nance from the race. Bowie was given his spot back before cutting down a tire on the ensuing restart.
All the while, Chester stayed clear of the chaos behind him to keep a firm grasp on the top spot. The last caution would fall on Lap 25m setting up a final 15-lap run to the checkered flag.
On the restart, Ches Chester held off a hard-charging Nick Schlager who was fast and looking for his first career FASTRAK win. Schlager would close into the left rear on Chester’s car but that was as close as he could get. The checkered flag waved over Chester as he picked up his second career FASTRAK national touring series victory at the same facility where he conquered his first career win in April 2018.
