On a beautiful night in Gastonia, North Carolina 20 Modifieds came out to Carolina Speedway for the Renegades of Dirt South Red Clay Rumble, but it was the “Gastonia Gasman” who came out on top in front of his hometown fans.  Patrick Lyon took the lead early from Shon Flannary and never looked back.

Lyon started third but moved into second on the first lap of the 25-lap feature.  Flannary and Lyon ran side-by-side  for five straight laps before Lyon prevailed with the lead coming off of turn two with six laps complete.

From there it was all Lyon all the way to the end in a caution-free affair.  The only thing Lyon had to deal with was lapped traffic, but he methodically worked his way through the field with no issues en route to the dominating win.

“I was just hoping they would get out of the way,” Lyon told Speed51.com powered by JEGS.  “There was a few times when I thought I’d get held up pretty good and be caught by second place.  But we got it.  I moved up the track and changed my line because I knew I couldn’t stay on the bottom the whole time.”

Lyon beat Flannary to the checkered flag by over a straightaway.  Rich Michael, Kyle Strickler and David Stremme rounded out the top five.

Lyon climbed out of his no. 01 Modified to a massive roar from his home town crowd, which he said made the night extra special.

“This is just an awesome feeling,” Lyon said.  “It’s my first big win, but not only that, this is my home track.  This is just crazy.  I don’t know how to describe it.  I’m still trying to believe that I won.”
