Tate Fogleman had his eyes on the prize this past weekend for the Super Late Model race at Southern National Motorsports Park (NC). The Durham, North Carolina native took an early lead and dominated the Thanksgiving Classic for a win close to home.
“We struggled a little bit in practice on Saturday, but my team worked hard and never gave up, just like they always do, to make the right adjustments and dial us in for today’s race,” Fogleman told Speed51.com powered by JEGS. “We qualified pretty good – qualified second – so we were able to start on the front row, alongside Danny O-Quinn, for the 125-lap race.”
Fogleman was quick to take the lead on the initial restart over O’Quinn as Bronson Butcher, Jody Measamer, and Lucas Jones settled into the top-five. A hard-charging O’Quinn and Jones kept Fogleman in striking distance early on, but were no match for the 17-year old.
Cautions flew periodically throughout the 125-lap race; however, Fogleman continued to hit his marks and hold off his competitors to lead green-to-checkered to pick up the Thanksgiving Classic win.
“Early on I was a little worried about getting too free, but we had enough under us to lead most of the race, if not all of it, and have a pretty dominant performance,” Fogleman said. “I’ve never won a big Super Late Model race here before. So after all of the times that we’ve been here, we finally pulled it off. Plus, it’s really cool that my dad has won here before and now I can say that I’ve won here too.”
Butcher, Stricklin, Jones, and Gilchrist followed Fogleman under the checkered flag.
