Florida young gun Jett Noland enters the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby as a rookie of the prized event, but that isn’t stopping him from having high aspirations for the nation’s most prestigious Super Late Model race. As the sixth-place finisher in Southern Super Series championship standings, Noland has turned a lot of laps at Five Flags Speedway in 2019 and knows that performing well in the event could catapult his young career.
“This is my first year racing at Five Flags Speedway,” Noland said. “We’ve been racing the Blizzard Series and we’ve learned a lot. The best of the best choose that track to hone their skills for the derby and that’s been our plan all along. Hopefully I’ve earned my rookie stripe, and we can put the throttle down come December 8.
“This race makes names,” Noland continued. “Everyone who’s won here has gone on to the next level. I want to go onto the next level, so to win here means everything.”
With so much hype built into just qualifying for the Derby, Noland isn’t shying away from the first task at hand: making the perfect lap on Friday night.
“From the time we roll into Pensacola on Wednesday, they call my name over the P.A. and we park the rig, my sole focus is finding the speed we need to make the field,” Noland told Speed51. “I’m confident my Jett Motorsports crew will give us a bullet for the weekend. They know the track, I have some amazing teammates who have competed there for years, and I plan to lean on them as much as possible to pick up speed.
“With 53 of the best drivers in the world putting on their a-game, it’s going to be quite a challenge to avoid the B-Main. But I feel that we’ve got the right people in our corner to get the best out of the car and the best out of me.”
With pressure mounting, Noland knows he has to execute, but the reward will be well worth his efforts.
“Realistically walking away with a top five would be like a win to me. We executed in distance races so far this year, so why not finish out the season by winning the biggest distance race of them all?”
The 52nd Annual Snowball Derby will be held December 4-8 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
