Rising to the challenge is what separates a top-notch driver from the rest of the pack. Whether it’s dominating a race, going on a winning streak or sealing a win with a late-race pass, drivers slowly rise to the top of the field and make a name for themselves.
That’s why the FK Rod Ends, who has nearly 10,000 combinations of rod ends and spherical bearings available and carefully crafts their products, is proud to honor a monthly “Team FK Driver of the Month” from the short track ranks of America on Speed51.com. Each month, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which driver had the most success on the track. The driver with the most votes will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Month” and will receive a $25 product certificate to use at FK Rod Ends. At the end of the 2020 season, the driver that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Year” and will be awarded a (to be determined) prize from FK Rod Ends. The winner of the “Team FK Driver of the Month” for the month of February is…
Dirt Super Late Models
It was one of the busiest periods of the entire year in short track, when drivers from all across the nation come south to Florida for Speedweeks. It wa an opportunity to cram in as much racing as possible into just a few weeks, while giving the bitter cold of winter the slip. Just surviving with your car intact is accomplishment enough, but for others it is an environment to flourish with race wins, and there was no one who won more during Speedweeks 2020 then Brandon Sheppard.
In fact, this is the second straight year that “B-Shepp” has been named the FK Rod Ends Short Track Driver of the Month for February, with four straight wins during the DIRTcar Nationals giving him the honor in 2019. For 2020, it was a five-win performance at two different tracks that helped earn Sheppard the moniker of the best of the month.
In Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action, Sheppard was the main man in Tampa at East Bay Raceway Park, winning three of the six races that made up the Winternationals. Moving to Volusia for the DIRTcar Nationals, Sheppard won on the first and third nights of the five that were run during the week there. His consistency also netted him the Big Gator Late Model Championship, beating out Jimmy Owens.
In the 13 races Sheppard competed in over February, he finished outside the Top 5 just once, and never outside the Top 10, all with an average finish of 2.61. He is also currently the points leader in both the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and World of Outlaws Late Model Series, the ladder of which he is going for another title in 2020.
For his combination of dominance and consistency over so many races in so little a time, Brandon Sheppard has been named FK Rod Ends Driver of the Month for February 2020.
Other drivers receiving votes this month were Travis Eddy, Aaron Reutzel, Derek Griffith, Brad Sweet, Tim McCreadie, Matt Hirschman, Larry Wight, Sam Mayer, and Anthony Nocella.
