Rising to the challenge is what separates a top-notch driver from the rest of the pack. Whether it’s dominating a race, going on a winning streak or sealing a win with a late-race pass, drivers slowly rise to the top of the field and make a name for themselves.
That’s why the FK Rod Ends, who has nearly 10,000 combinations of rod ends and spherical bearings available and carefully crafts their products, is proud to honor a monthly “Team FK Driver of the Month” from the short track ranks of America on Speed51.com. Each month, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which driver had the most success on the track. The driver with the most votes will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Month” and will receive a $25 product certificate to use at FK Rod Ends. At the end of the 2019 season, the driver that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Year” and will be awarded a (to be determined) prize from FK Rod Ends. The winner of the “Team FK Driver of the Month” for the month of December is…
Dirt Late Models
Starting off as just another enthusiastic racer from West Virginia, Tyler Carpenter has built himself into a regional star and a fan favorite in the Mountaineer State the past couple of years. But, even he never fully expected himself to be able to put his name on the top step of a national podium. That is until this humble driver managed to rock the dirt world in the “Heart of America”.
Heading to the fourth running of the Gateway Dirt Nationals, held indoors at the massive Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, going up against many of the nation’s best Dirt Late Model stars was quite the early Christmas present for the “Kamikaze Kid.” But, once the racing action got started on night two, Carpenter showed signs that he could beat those stars, winning both his heat race and his 20-lap qualifier.
Going into the Saturday features, Carpenter had his ticket punched for the A-main with a good starting position. Once the green flag dropped, he didn’t let up, ultimately defeating the likes of Brandon Sheppard, Tanner English, Jonathan Davenport and Ryan Unzicker just to name a few by the end of the 40-lap feature.
By weekend’s end, Carpenter had won two feature trophies, over $30,000 and the hearts of the racing world. He also made strides in pursuit of another miracle, raising much needed funds for his niece Mannon who has been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
For a career weekend on one of Dirt Late Model racing’s biggest stages, and for becoming the newest national fan-favorite almost over night, Speed51 has named Tyler Carpenter the FK Rod Ends Driver of the Month for December.
Other drivers receiving votes this month were Travis Braden, Derek Thorn, Tony Stewart and Kyle Larson.
