FK Rod Ends Driver of the Month for December 2020

Rising to the challenge is what separates a top-notch driver from the rest of the pack. Whether it’s dominating a race, going on a winning streak or sealing a win with a late-race pass, drivers slowly rise to the top of the field and make a name for themselves.

That’s why the FK Rod Ends, who has nearly 10,000 combinations of rod ends and spherical bearings available and carefully crafts their products, is proud to honor a monthly “Team FK Driver of the Month” from the short track ranks of America on Speed51.com. Each month, an esteemed panel of short track industry insiders will vote on which driver had the most success on the track. The driver with the most votes will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Month” and will receive a $25 product certificate to use at FK Rod Ends. At the end of the 2020 season, the driver that received the most votes throughout the season will then be the “Team FK Driver of the Year” and will be awarded a (to be determined) prize from FK Rod Ends. The winner of the “Team FK Driver of the Month” for the month of December is…

Derek Thorn
Super Late Models

Thorn capped off a fifth SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour championship with yet another win at Kern County Raceway Park on December 19.  He would finish the year having won eight of the nine SRL races scheduled in 2020, a feat unmatched in touring Super Late Model racing across the country.

Before earning another SRL title, Thorn made the trip east to the Snowball Derby and made history.  After sitting on the pole for the second straight year, he led a race-record 252 laps that Sunday afternoon.  While he would come up short when the checkered flag flew, his second-place effort was a career-best for him and helped put on another instant classic in the biggest Super Late Model race in the country.

He also sat on the pole for the Snowflake 100, becoming the first driver to claim both pole positions since Chase Elliott.  He led over half the race before finishing fourth.

For scoring another series title and making history in Super Late Model racing’s biggest race, Derek Thorn has been named the FK Rod Ends Short Track Driver of the Month for December 2020.

Other drivers receiving votes this month were Ty Majeski, Jake Johnson and Kyle Larson
