The grueling days that take place throughout Snowball Derby week put an immense amount of pressure on drivers and race teams. Throughout the weekend, each team’s toughness will be tested during each stage of the event. Five Star Race Car Bodies will honor the team’s that prove to be the toughest by awarding the Five Star Tested Tough Award daily during the 49th Annual Snowball Derby.
Five Star, the leading manufacturer of top quality race car bodies and components, will join forces with Speed51.com to recognize a recipient on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The award can be given to drivers in any competing division.
The award will culminate with the infamous Hal Goodson Award following the running of the prestigious Super Late Model event on Sunday.
2015’s Five Star Tested Tough winner was Casey Smith. After capturing the Southern Super Series championship last year, the Austin, Texas driver was not able to make it into the top 30 in Friday evening’s qualifying session. As the series champion, Smith received a provisional starting position toward the rear of the 37-car field and overcame the adversity to finish sixth at the conclusion of 300 laps.
Harrison Burton was also a recipient following the hard work their crew put in after a vicious practice wreck on Thursday, which was turned around into a qualifying effort solidly in the field on Friday evening.
The 49th Annual Snowball Derby weekend kicks off on Wednesday, November 30 with the Cat Country/WEAR TV3 Green Flag Pit Party and Qualifying Order Draw Down.
Thursday, December 1 will see the Super Late Models take to the track for the first official Snowball Derby practice. The night will be highlighted by a 30-lap race for the Butler U-Pull-It Bombers and a 50-lap event for the Dock on the Beach Sportsmen division.
The top Snowball Derby starting spots will be set on Friday, December 2 during NASH FM 102.7 Pole Night. The Faith Chapel Super Stocks and the Modifieds will each run 50-lap features.
The Pro Late Models take center stage on Saturday, December 3 for the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100. The 50-lap Last Chance Qualifier for the Snowball Derby and a 50-lap feature for the Beef O’Brady’s Pro Truck division will also run on Saturday night.
Then on Sunday, December 4 the green flag will fly over the 49th Annual Snowball Derby. The 300-lap race will begin at 2 p.m. CT.
