First-Time TUNDRA Winner Crowned at Golden Sands

Those around the TUNDRA Super Late Model Series have known it wasn’t about if Jordan DeVoy would get his first-career win with the series, but when.  He has always shown speed since joining the series in 2016, but just couldn’t find victory lane.

That all changed Monday afternoon however, as DeVoy charged from the eighth starting spot and took the lead with 30 to go to score his first-career TUNDRA win at Golden Sands Speedway.

This feels like a long time coming.  It’s one of those things that builds confidence and gets that monkey off your back,” DeVoy told Speed51.  “I’ve had so many people help me over the years to get me where I am and get me a little knowledge and help.  I appreciate every one of them.

While other drivers struggled to make up ground or keep pace when choosing the outside during restarts, that was what ultimately helped get DeVoy to victory lane.  He took the outside lane to jump from third to the outside front row just before a restart with 30 to go and stole the lead from defending race winner and Golden Sands track champion Justin Mondeik.

Not even a slew of late restarts could slow him down as he held off Mike Lichtfield over the final laps.

“It was really tight up on the outside but I knew if I could get into the throttle early enough it would rotate.  That’s what it’s all about here, if you can get through the center and drive off you can definitely make it work.”

While he lives three hours away from the facility in Lake Geneva, WI, Golden Sands has become a home away from home for DeVoy.  The track now lays claim to his two biggest Super Late Model wins – The Harvest held last October and now his first TUNDRA Super Late Model Series win.

“This is definitely one of my top-three favorite tracks.  It’s awesome to have no grip and it takes a lot of driver to make it work here with guys like (Justin) Mondeik and (Mike) Lichtfield.  We found grip where there was nothing.”

Lichtfield would finish second, while Riley Stenjem used the choose cone to his advantage to finish third and take the points lead heading into the season finale at Dells Raceway Park.  Mondeik and Jordan Thiel rounded out the top-five.
