New FASTRAK Winner While ‘Downtown’ Takes Triple Crown

“Downtown” Michael Brown appeared poised to sweep all four feature races of the FASTRAK Triple Crown weekend at Friendship Motor Speedway (NC).  Carson Ferguson had other plans.

The Charlotte-area racer held off Brown in the fourth and final race of the weekend for his first career FASTRAK Racing Series win.

Ferguson had amassed eight top-fives and 11 top-10 finishes in his FASTRAK Racing Series career, including a runner-up finish to Brown in the first race of the night for his fifth career podium.  Finally, in the second 25-lapper of the night, Ferguson was able to secure the elusive win.

“We’ve come so close so many times,” Ferguson told Speed51.  “So many top-fives and top-threes.  To get it at the home track makes it very special.”

While the win came at the Elkin, North Carolina facility a little more than an hour north of home for Ferguson, much of his family was spending Memorial Day weekend elsewhere, missing out on his first win.

“A lot of the family were gone to the beach on Memorial Day weekend,” said Ferguson.  “I’m sure they were watching Speed51.  They know how much they mean to me.”

Brown finished second in the final race of the weekend, which was more than enough to secure the honor of FASTRAK Triple Crown Champion.

“It feels good, man,” said Brown. : We’ve had a good weekend. I’m happy to see Carson win, he’s an awesome guy, awesome family.  If I had to lose, I’d rather lose to him.

“It feels awesome,” added Brown.  “I’m very fortunate to have good people behind me.”

Ferguson may have led the lion’s share of the final race of the weekend, but he knew exactly who he was up against at the end of the race.

“When someone’s on a roll, it’s really hard to beat him,” Ferguson said about Brown.  “We outran him last year.  I knew we could do it and everyone’s beatable.  With him winning the past three or four races, I think this was the first race he’s lost in that car that he’s finished.  When I looked up and saw he was in second, I felt the pressure.”
