This Saturday, Dirt Late Model racing returns in a big way to Cherokee Speedway. The Palmetto Invitational will pay $10,000 to the winner and boasts an impressive entry list filled with some of the top Dirt Late Model racers in the country.
The entry list for the Palmetto Invitational is now out, offering a first glance at the heavy hitters who will race this weekend at “The Place Your Momma Warned You About.”
The event is a joint venture with Cherokee Speedway, DC II LLC Concrete Construction Company and Speed51. Fifty drivers have been invited to the race, which will be contested in front of spectator-less grandstands. The 60-lap feature event will pay $10,000 to win.
Topping the list are a pair of champions from the top series in Dirt Late Model racing. Three-time and defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Jonathan Davenport and three-time World of Outlaws Late Model Series title-holder Darrell Lanigan will both be on hand on Saturday.
There are also big names with past success at Cherokee Speedway entered in Saturday’s Palmetto Invitational. Six-time Blue-Gray 100 winner Chris Madden, 2018 Blue-Gray 100 winner Brandon Overton and 2017 March Madness winner Ross Bailes are drivers looking to add to their trophy collections from Cherokee.
The Southeast will also be well-represented by several champions from the region. Drivers such as three-time ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series champion Casey Roberts, two-time series champions Zack Mitchell and Dennis Franklin, former ULTIMATE champion Tyler Millwood and defending Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series champion Brett Hamm will be part of the Palmetto Invitational.
There are plenty of other notables on the entry list as well. Racers such as Kyle Strickler, Shanon Buckingham, Hudson O’Neal and Tyler Erb add to the star power of this already-loaded field.
A full list of entrants for the Palmetto Invitational can be seen below.
While spectators will not be allowed in the stands due to social distancing practices and regulations, Speed51 will offer a live pay-per-view broadcast that will supplement the purse for the race. Fans can click here to order their broadcast ticket for Saturday’s race.
Speed51 yearly subscribers will receive 10% off the purchase of Saturday’s broadcast.
The event will also benefit The One SC Fund. The One SC Fund is currently activated to fund statewide COVID-19 response efforts in a partnership between SC Grantmakers Network, Together SC, and the United Way Association of SC.
