Mooresville, North Carolina — South Alabama Speedway, located north of the Alabama/Florida state line in Opp, Alabama is a track that Chad Finley is very familiar with. In 2013, Finley shattered the track record in Qualifying and led the first 100 laps of the race before ignition problems stalled his efforts. Last season, he qualified second quick, but his afternoon ended early in the race when an oil line ruptured due to debris on the track. Finley is hoping the third trip down proves to be the charm.
The fast 4/10s (0.400) mile semi-banked paved oval is the site for the 39th running of the Rattler 250 which is also the 2015 season opener for the Southern Super Series. “South Alabama Speedway continues to tease me. I really like the track and this race especially, but it hasn’t warranted us the finishes we’ve deserved,” Stated the 22-year-old driver as preparations continue for the trip to Alabama. “We’ve sat on the pole and led a bunch of laps, but we just can’t seem to make it to the finish. Hopefully the third time is the charm and we’re standing in victory lane at the end of the race.”
In the first race of the new season, SpeedFest 2015 at another 4/10s mile oval, Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia back on January 25th, Finley overcame electrical problems throughout practice and qualifying day, which saw his familiar black #42 near the bottom of the practice charts and then in qualifying, a 22nd place time. Finley would however rebound on race day in the headlining SpeedFest 200 for the ARCA/CRA Super Series and brought home the events Hard-Charger and Most Improved Driver Awards for the race with his 22nd to sixth place run.
For the remainder of the 2015 racing season, CFR and 220 Ventures will run in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with Finley making select appearances. In addition to Finley’s Truck and select Super Late Model schedule, CFR has created a Driver Development program within the CARS Super Late Model Tour with Robby Lyons behind the wheel. Finley also looks to return to his home state of Michigan and compete in select ARCA/CRA Super Series Powered by JEGS and JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance events when his schedule allows.
The next race for Finley after the Rattler 250 will tentatively be the ARCA/CRA Super Series 2015 season opener for points; the 7-Up 100 Presented by Royal Truck & Trailer Sales on Friday-Saturday, April 10-11th at the fast 1/2 (0.500) mile high-banked paved oval of Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio. The event is also a combination race pitting the CRA stars against the teams from the ARCA Midwest Tour. In the 2014 version of the race, Finley win the Fast Qualifier Award over the 42-car field and finished a solid third in what was a 150-lap event.
