Final Showdown for Oxford Title Fights on for Saturday

With the days of September already counting past, the beginning of the end for the 2021 short track season in North America is here. Since Midspring, the racers of Oxford Plains Speedway’s 11 weekly divisions have been battling it out week after week, and this Saturday all those battles will come to a head.

All of Oxford’s Saturday and Friday night divisions will have their final points races this Saturday, September 11; including the Spencer Paving Group Super Late Models, which will be back out for a final 50-lap show.

Defending SLM Oxford champion Dave Farrington Jr. is poised to finish off his second career title on Saturday night, leading by 56 points over Kyle DeSouza and 61 over third-place Curtis Gerry. But, with a maximum points gain of 65 points between heat and feature racing, and a big field expected to cap the season, Farrington is not out of danger of being caught.

While Gerry has the most Saturday night victories thus far in 2021 with four, inconsistency has put him behind in the title fight. DeSouza is still looking for his first feature win of the season, with consistency alone keeping him in the runner-up spot, albeit by five ahead of Gerry, the 2019 Oxford champ.

Farrington has collected three 50-lap feature wins over the season, riding the momentum of a 150-lap Pro All Stars points victory back on April 25. However, the latest victory came two months ago on July 5. While the championship is not a complete lock, expect Farrington’s prioritizing race wins to fuel his goals on Saturday night.

In addition to the Super Late Models of the Saturday night Oxford Championship Series, the Street Stocks, Bandits, Rookies, and Figure 8’s will conclude their seasons, along with the Ladies Division, Sport Trucks, Four-Cylinder Figure 8’s, Runnin’ Rebels, Cruisers, and Outlaws of the Oxford Acceleration Series which normally competes on Friday nights.

See all these great divisions with your Speed51 yearly or monthly subscription this Saturday, September 11 starting at 4pm live on Speed51.TV.
