FASTRAK Season Concludes With a Sweep at Screven

The FASTRAK Racing Series powered by Chevrolet Performance put a bow on the 2019 season at Screven Motorsports Complex (GA) Saturday afternoon. Just as he did Friday night, Georgia native Ches Chester beat the competition and the impending rain showers to complete the weekend sweep at the 20th Annual Georgia Outlaw State Championship.

Chester picked up a $3,000 check after capturing the third FASTRAK Racing Series victory of his career.

Like he did the night prior, Chester started the 40-lap race from the outside of the front row with Bob Roberson to his inside.  Once again, he quickly jumped out to the lead before being slowed down by nine cautions.

One of the deciding moments of the race occurred on a Lap 22 restart when Nick Schlager lined up to the outside of Chester on the front row.  Hungry for his first career FASTRAK touring victory, Schlager jumped the restart and was penalized two positions by race officials.

If that wasn’t enough, the big one would ensue soon after with seven cars involved. During the massive clean-up efforts sprinkles began falling, leading people to wonder if the race could reach its conclusion. Fortunately, the skies parted and the racing resumed with Chester leading the way.

Mark Whitener, driving Travis Pennington’s machine, rallied hard to the front to mount a charge.  Schlager tried everything possible to try and get around Whitener, but in doing so that allowed Chester to pull away from the two contenders and capture the checkered flag.

Roberson held strong to finish fourth, while 2019 FASTRAK Touring Series champion Carson Ferguson completed the top five.  In addition to clinching his championship this weekend, Ferguson also claimed the 2019 Rookie of the Year presented by Speed51.
