A fun and exciting new twist has been added to the longest running asphalt Modified race in the country. For the first time in the history of the Race of Champions 250, the 66th running of the race will feature a fan vote that will lock one driver into the $12,500-to-win race.
Ten drivers from different regions and series that run Tour-Type Modifieds have been placed on the ballot. Those drivers will be eligible to receive the sixth and final guaranteed starting spot on Saturday, September 17 at Oswego Speedway (NY).
Beginning Wednesday, September 7 at 5 p.m. ET and ending Friday, September 9 at 5 p.m. ET, the driver receiving the most votes on Speed51.com will be locked into the big show.
“We want to have our fans involved in this race,” said Joe Skotnicki of the Race of Champions. “It is our goal to once again make this a true ‘Superbowl’ type event for asphalt modified racers. It is still the longest running asphalt modified race in the country. This will just add to it and hopefully give fans a voice in who they want to see in competition.”
The driver who receives the most votes will join Ryan Preece (Turkey Derby), Justin Bonsignore (North South Shootout), Eric Goodale (Richie Evans Memorial at New Smyrna), Matt Hirschman (SBM 125) and Austin Kochenash (Bob “Heavy” Scherer Memorial) as drivers guaranteed a starting spot in the 66th Annual Race of Champions 250.
Speed51.com and Race of Champions officials will announce the winner of the fan vote on Friday night after votes are tabulated. The goal is to give the winning race team enough time to make plans to attend the highly-anticipated race weekend.
Race fans throughout the country will be able to visit Speed51.com to vote once per day per computer. Stuffing the ballot box (voting more than once per day) will disqualify all votes from that IP address.
