Prior to the start of the 2016 racing season, very few race fans recognized the name Cole Anderson.  Now, less than one calendar month into the new season, the Minnesota native has garnered enough attention nationwide to earn himself a chance at the Light $10,000 bonus for February’s Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway Park (CA).

Over the course of the last three weeks, Anderson earned the most fan votes among the 10 drivers nominated to earn his shot at the bonus money.  With more than 2,000 votes cast by short track racing fans on since January 4, Anderson earned over 25-percent of the votes.

“It’s so cool that Cole and his Anthony Campi team will make the long trip out for the Winter Showdown,” stated the SRL’s Larry Collins.  “He has to be one of the hottest Super Late Model drivers in the country right now, so to add him to the already stacked field at the Winter Showdown is awesome.  Thanks to all the fans for voting on”

In addition to the $10,000 bonus he is now eligible for, Anderson will also have the chance at the $30,000 winner’s purse, which is part of the $180,000 up for grabs at the event.

“It would be amazing to go out there and win all that money,” said Anderson, the winner of both the Red-Eye 100 and Orange Blossom 100 at New Smyrna Speedway (FL).  “There’s definitely a lot of it.  That would be awesome.  I’m just looking forward to the competition. Getting to race with Derek Thorn and all the good guys out there; and I’ll get a lot more seat time and experience on another new race track.”

Anderson will join a group of five drivers, including defending event winner Bubba Pollard, who will be eligible for the $10,000 bonus.  Out of the five drivers, the driver with the best finish will take home the prize.  A finalized list of the five drivers eligible will be announced soon by and SRL Southwest Tour officials.

In order to be eligible for the bonus, each driver will display a Coors Light decal across their hood during the Winter Showdown.  Additionally, each eligible driver will also display decals on each side of their cars in a designated location.

The bonus will be reduced by $2,000 for each driver that elects not to make the trip out west to compete in the Winter Showdown.  For example, if one out of the five drivers does not compete in the race, the bonus will be reduced to $8,000.
