It was a typical sight to see Saturday night in Bradenton, Florida as Jesse Dutilly pulled into victory lane once again at Desoto Speedway in the third race of the 2016 Sunoco Challenge Series Super Late Model season.
Dutilly lead nearly half of the scheduled 115 laps of the Butch Lindley Memorial. He was able to work around a stout Joe Winchell and hold off a hard charging Joe Boyd in the closing laps to pull off the win.
“(This is) spectacular. It’s our home track and we haven’t raced here in half a year and when you’re at your home playground you want to win,” Dutilly told Speed51.com powered by JEGS. “I live 15 minutes from here and I’ve won pretty much everything you have to win award wise here. I cut my teeth here per say. So I’m super happy to win here.
“It’s nice to race close to home. It’s nice to get a win in this series, we only got a couple point lead, and to extend our lead a little bit with the short amount of races we have, it’s going to be real tight to the end. So, after the last race we lost a little bit of that, it’s real nice to move forward from that wreck. I couldn’t be any happier with the car.”
When discussing how he eventually got around Winchell, Dutilly gave credit to his rival.
“Winchell has a lot of experience, he has many laps leading, and was able to make his car really wide.”
Winchell’s response when asked about the battle between himself and Dutilly was a casual shrug.
“I wish I could answer that because that’s been going on for three years but our car got real tight. We’re not sure if we got a shock issue. We’re going to send these things out Monday morning to see what happened.”
Winchell held on to finish third, surrendering second to a hard charging Joe Boyd.
“We just hung in there. The car got loose towards the end and I lost some forward drive coming off the corner but still had a good car,” said Boyd. “We just gotta keep digging. Keep plugging along and we’ll get him. We got a little bit of time at it and a great racecar to work with.”
The Sunoco Challenge Super Late Model Series will pick back up next Saturday at Auburndale Speedway where Dutilly, Boyd, and Winchell will be battling another fierce field of competitors for the win.
