The highly anticipated Icebreaker 40 season opener for the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Series at Selinsgrove Speedway (PA) was canceled on Saturday afternoon.  It marked the fourth straight year that the event was not run.

With Big Block Modified heavy hitters such as Matt Sheppard, Brett Hearn and Danny Johnson in attendance, the decision was made prior to hot laps between RoC owner Joe Skotnicki and speedway officials.

“Extreme conditions caused the cancellation of today’s event,” Skotnicki told Speed51.com powered by JEGS.

With temperatures only predicted to reach into the mid 40s and threatening weather moving into the Northeast, a rough count of a dozen cars were on hand.  Teams were still given the option to participate in the afternoon’s open practice session along with the track’s local divisions.

The next race for the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Series will be at Canadaigua Motorsports Park (NY) on Saurday, April 16.  The asphalt tour begins on Saturday, April 9 at Mahoning Valley Speedway (PA).
