With the tease of Spring-like temperatures over a month ago, it seems ‘old man winter’ wants to keep a grip on the Stateline area as long as possible. Try as he may, race cars will finally hit the track THIS SATURDAY afternoon at Rockford Speedway! The day begins at 11 AM with an Open Practice session, where drivers will have their first chance to fire up their machines and dial them in for the season. The Open Practice runs until 2:30 PM. Then, at 3 PM, it’s all-out motorized madness with the running of the WXRX Stone and Double T 200 featuring four cylinder cars! The event runs ‘rain (or snow) or shine’ and is a fun way to get the new season started. Adult admission for Saturday’s WXRX Stone and Double T 200 is $12, Students 12-17 are $8, Children 6-11 are $5 and Kids 5 and under are admitted FREE! We hope to see you at the track this Saturday as we officially say ‘hello’ to racing and ‘good riddance’ to winter!
Next Sunday afternoon April 17, it’s the “Midwest’s First BIG Race”, with the running of the 39th Annual Spring Classic. Again this year, the Big 8 Late Model Series headlines the afternoon, with an 88 lap feature event for the “Best Weekly Warriors in the Country.” As usual, Spring Classic at Rockford Speedway is a “Clash of the Champions” with names like Jeremy Miller (4x Big Series champion), Casey Johnson (2x Big 8 Series champion), Michael Bilderback (reigning Big 8 Series champion), Dale Nottestad (former Spring Classic winner) and Jake Gille (reigning Rockford Speedway champion) among the early entries. The Mid American Stock Car Series kicks off their 24th season at Spring Classic with a 50 lap feature event, while the American Ethanol Super Trucks return to Rockford Speedway next weekend, contesting Twin 25 lap features. Gates open at 11 AM next Sunday, with the first race going green at 1 PM. Adult admission is $20, Students 12-17 are $10, Children 6-11 are $5, with kids 5 and under free!
Saturday April 23 is “Opening Day” for racing in the Stateline area, with events planned throughout the area all day, leading up to the 69th NASCAR Season Opener presented by Pepsi on Saturday night! The fun begins over the lunch hour, with several race teams displaying their cars at businesses throughout the area as part of “Racing Around Town!” You’ll be able to catch some of your favorite cars and drivers at various local businesses during the day Saturday April 23, as the competitors of Rockford Speedway overspread the area to promote the new season! (A full list of cars and locations will be released in the next 7-10 days) After that, it’s time for short track excitement ‘under the lights’ and the 69th NASCAR Season Opener presented by Pepsi! The Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models, Bargain Hunter Sportsman, Miller Lite American Short Trackers and Kickstart Roadrunners will be ready for action along with the Sam’s Drive-In ‘Kidney Bean Race.’ Gates open at 5 PM, with the Co-Lin Metals Fabricating Fast Dashes going green at 7:07 PM.
