One of the most decorated drivers in Late Model racing will be racing at the 51st running of the Alabama 200 on Sunday at Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL). Chase Elliott, the 2014 NASCAR Xfinity Champion and former Snowball Derby winner will be racing this weekend in his Super Late Model.
“Chase Elliott has filed an entry for the race and I spoke with his Late Model Crew Chief Ricky Turner and they are excited about coming back to Montgomery,” said track General Manager Stan Narrison.
Elliott is a former winner of the Alabama 200 having taken the win back in 2013 when it first became a Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco event. In all he has two Southern Super Series wins including the All American 400 in 2013.
When Elliott won the race in 2013 he came back from a late spin which allowed him to take tires late and charge to the front to score the win. Elliott has since been back to Montgomery for a Southern Super Series race back in 2014. He led laps in the race after starting from the pole, but he failed to finish the event.
There has been lots of success for Elliott at Montgomery Motor Speedway as he won three Pro Late Model races at the half-mile track in 2010 before making the move to Super Late Models.
The race will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday following the 75-lap Modifieds of Mayhem event. Fans are welcome to tailgate during the weekend as there will be practice on Friday and qualifying on Saturday. In addition to qualifying on Saturday there will be several local features with racing starting at 7 p.m.
