It was a full moon Saturday night at the track nicknamed “The Bullring,” otherwise known as Auburndale Speedway. A large crowd of local short track fans gathered at the Winter Haven, Florida track and witnessed Jesse Dutilly put on a clinic in the Sunshine State Challenge Series Super Late Model 100.

Dutilly, who won the pole in qualifying, remained there after pulling a lucky number one on the inversion draw.  After taking the green flag, the Florida driver kept his No. 30 out front from flag to flag in dominant fashion.

After pulling his car into victory lane, Dutilly discussed his race winning strategy with Speed51.com powered by JEGS.

300x250 PASS Orange Blossom PPV 2017.03.25“We made some adjustments and the car cut the center really well,” he explained.  “We had been fighting that here. We’ve always had a pretty good forward drive, but a bit tight in the center. We got it turning really good tonight and that’s what got us the win.”

George Gorham Jr. finished second on the evening, looking at times to be the only car that might have something for Dutilly on the long run.

“The car was really good. Me and Dutilly got into it on a restart. I’m pretty sure it knocked the toe in,” Gorham stated.  “The car didn’t drive the same afterword. But on long green flag runs the car got better.

“I think if there was a caution late in the race, I think we could have had something for him. He’s hard to beat but we’re getting there. We’ve run second to him a bunch. We’re getting closer and closer every race.”

Dutilly agreed with Gorham that the competition is getting closer and closer on the series he has dominated in recent years.

“There is high competition in this series. We have 15 or 16 cars, but six, seven, or eight could win the race. They’re all bringing good stuff and working really hard. I’m just glad we’ve won three out of the four out of the gate and came out with a strong run.”
